Ni el periódico de los domingos

Me acuerdo que empezé a comprar el periódico - casi a diario -cuando iba a la facultad.
Dejé de comprarlo entre semana cuando comencé a ir al trabajo en coche.
Eso sí, los domingos eran sagrados...hasta hace un par de meses.

Lo único que leía del dominical de El Mundo era algún artículillo de la seccion de economía, alguno del Magazine y el suplemento entero de Ariadna. Como pueden comprobar todo está disponible en Internet, así que lo leo ahí. Y si veo algo un poco extenso e interesante, lo imprimo y lo leo mientras voy para casa.

Hoy he hecho el amago de comprarlo, pero cuando he visto que había cola en el kiosko me he desanimado.

No me lo podía creer cuando me lo han comentado esta mañana. Pero es cierta.
Con vista a la construcción de una carretera (la A11 [artículo en la wikipedia ¡¡¡ ), se van a expropiar viñedos de Vega Sicilia,Alión (ambas tienen un mismo propietario, la familia Álvarez) y Abadía de Retuerta.

Por supuesto, han presentado recurso.

Ojo con Fasterfox

Me han baneado temporalmente de una web por utilizar Fasterfox en la opción Turbo.

Mi amigo/administrador Metal me lo ha dejado muy, muy claro:

yo no recomiendo usar fasterfox ya que cada vez mas hostings deciden bloquear a los usuarios que lo usan porque hace una cantidad de peticiones masivas que sobrecargan la pagina.

Avisados quedan.

Malditos porcentajes

Leyendo El alma está en el cerebro me he encontrado con este párrafo:

Lucía ha visto un precioso vestido en las rebajas. Llega a la tienda y comprueba que el establecimiento ha añadido un 40% de descuento sobre la rebaja del 40% que ya tenía la prenda.
Lucía entra contenta en el local pensando que comprará el vestido con una rebaja del 80% cuando, en realidad, sólo es del 64%.

Sí, es absolutamente cierto. Existen muchísimas Lucías en el mundo real. Incluso en el mundo laboral.
Muchas personas se suelen defender aduciendo el tan manido "es que yo soy de letras..."
Los porcentajes son importantísimos en la vida cotidiana. Escuchamos diariamente que el IPC ha subido un 3%, que alguien ha comprado algo con un 40% de rebaja, que los accidentes han bajado un 2%, etc.

Un porcentaje no es más que una forma de comparar dos cantidades, poniendo una de ellas como base o referencia.
Así que debemos tener cuidado: el porcentaje obtenido depende de la base con la que queramos comparar.
Dicho de otra forma: existen dos maneras diferentes de decir lo mismo, en función de la base que utilicemos.
Un ejemplo: Fulanito gana 1.000 €/mes mientras que Menganito gana 1.200€/mes.
Fulanito puede decir que gana un 20% menos que Menganito( 1.200-1.000/1.000)
Pero Menganito puede afirmar que tan sólo es un 16,6%(1.000-1.200/1.200)
Otro ejemplo de este problema es que si algo sube un x% y luego baja un x%, ello no significa que nos quedemos como estábamos inicialmente.Ni mucho menos.
Veamoslo. Si tengo 100 y aumento un 10%, tengo 110. Si ahora quitamos un 10%, debemos restar 11 (es decir, 110*10% = 110*0,1) a 110, de tal forma que 110-11=99.

Google Reader: primer aviso

Cuando a finales de mayo de 2005 cerró Feedmanía, me pasé sin dudarlo a Bloglines.
Mi primera impresión con Google Reader, lanzado en octubre 2005, no fue muy satisfactoria que se diga.
Pero Google Reader se ha puesto las pilas. Y mucho.
Tanto es así que fue elegida aplicacion del año por Lifehacker.

Acabo de leer en Genbeta que Google Reader ya reproduce vídeos.
Quizás la gota que colma el vaso.
